FUNDERS:

3-D Oyster Reef

Leonardtown Rotary Club's vision for a sustainable three-dimensional oyster reef in the St. Mary's River is coming to fruition. A formal partnership has been established with the Leonardtown Rotary Club, St. Mary's College of Maryland, and the St. Mary's River Watershed Association. Each partner brings to the project their unique abilities and resources. The College is responsible for the research, design, monitoring, and habitat sustainability evaluation. The Watershed Association's ongoing oyster restoration programming—outreach and enaging volunteers—will be combined with oversight of implementation. The Leonardtown Rotary Club has taken on the formidable task of fundraising.

Project planners and promoters Steve King and Bob Lewis (photo to right) present to the Roatary District 7620 at their annual meeting demonstrating the critical need for sustainable and affordable oyster restoration. After more than a year of planning, the project is ready to launch and funding is greatly needed. Plans are underway for a November ground-breaking ceremony followed by reef construction from November through April, 2013.

We will add to these page weekly and hope to launch a specific online donation program where you can underwrite the cost of planting 1000 oysters for just $10. Please bookmark this page and come back soon.
